Siemens machinery and products support diverse communities worldwide. At the Padua Technical School in Argentina, they depend on Siemens equipment that plays a crucial role in training students for technical careers. Unfortunately, when their over 10-year-old Siemens machinery stopped working, it disrupted technical training. With an expired warranty and instructions in a foreign language on how to possibly fix it, the school was left anticipating high costs despite low resources.

Not your typical repair request

The technical school knew they needed to reach out to the GBS First Line Contact Siemens (FLCS) After Sales team for guidance on the next steps. When Sofia Navarro, an Administrative Functional Support member from the FLCS team, spoke with the school, she learned about their economic situation and the critical role the machinery played in the students' and professors' training. Realizing the urgency and importance, she knew she had to take action to help.

Following the call, Sofia embarked on a thorough search for the Siemens technicians who had been involved nearly a decade earlier. Although it wasn't easy, she eventually found the original technician and decided to reach out. After numerous hours of research and countless phone calls, the team managed to successfully set up the machinery once again. This effort not only restored the essential equipment for the students and professors but also helped the school avoid the significant costs that would have been incurred for field service assistance.

But the impact didn't end there. This interaction sparked a chain of events, with more Siemens teams getting involved and ready to continue positively impacting the group.

Continuing impact on the students

A few weeks later, Siemens received a letter from the school expressing gratitude to Sofia and the technicians for their outstanding support. When the Siemens Foundation heard about the situation, they decided to team up with Digital Industries (DI). From hearing about the students, they saw a great need to continue to support them in their technical practice. They offered them an incredible opportunity: Free training on Solid Edge – a comprehensive suite of software tools for 3D design, simulation, manufacturing, and data management, developed by Siemens DI. The Solid Edge tool provides the students with access to professional-grade 3D CAD software, an instrumental learning resource in their STEM career advancement. As for the cost of the certification? It was completely covered.

The pilot program was a huge success, with 88% of the students achieving international certification in the Solid Edge tool. Looking ahead, DI is eager to continue the program in 2025, offering more support to students in staying future-ready by growing their skills when resources are not as readily available.

What began as a simple interaction with GBS transformed into an impactful chain of events with DI’s involvement in helping a group of students. Today, they can continue on their journeys of transforming the everyday with Siemens by their side.
